The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has unveiled a significant upgrade to its infrastructure in Kano State, with the inauguration of a new 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) power transformer at the Dan Agundi Transmission Substation. Alongside this, a 132/33 Kilo Volt (KV) transformer was also brought online, marking a substantial enhancement in the substation's capabilities.
According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the addition of these transformers will augment the capacity of the Dan Agundi transmission substation by 80 megawatts (MW), providing a crucial boost to the region's power supply capability. Procured under the TCN-World Bank power project, the new transformer was installed earlier this year, expanding the station's operational capacity.
Mbah highlighted the significance of these upgrades, noting that a fire incident had previously damaged one of the three existing 60MVA capacity transformers at the substation, leading to a reduction in capacity. However, with the new transformers now operational, the substation not only restores its full capacity but also gains redundancy, ensuring it can accommodate additional loads efficiently.
Despite challenges in gas supply for power generation affecting generation output, TCN remains committed to meeting demand. With the new infrastructure in place, the Dan Agundi Substation is better positioned to handle current and future electricity needs in the region. The company expresses gratitude to affected customers for their patience and support during the restoration process.
TCN's efforts underscore a broader commitment to enhancing Nigeria's power infrastructure, ensuring a more reliable and resilient electricity supply across the country.
