AUSTRALIA – The upgrade will enable better power flows between the states, unlocking access to renewable energy generation.
Transgrid has announced that work is nearing completion on Transgrid's upgrade of the Victoria-NSW Interconnector.
According to Transgrid, upgrading the Victoria – New South Wales Interconnector (VNI) will enable better power flows between the states, unlocking access to renewable energy generation. It will help lower the cost of wholesale electricity across the National Electricity Market and put downward pressure on customer bills.
Final testing is underway on six new SmartValve units installed at the Yass substation. Thanks to this technology, they can allow more renewable energy to flow between Victoria, NSW & ACT, unlock an extra 170 MW capacity from VIC to NSW and provide enough energy to power 30,000 homes.
