Trench Austria GmbH, a subsidiary of the Trench Group, is significantly expanding its production capacities at its Leonding facility in Upper Austria. The company has already invested €16 million in 2024 and plans an additional €31 million as part of a global growth initiative in energy transmission technology.
The investment aims to double production capacity at the site, positioning Trench Austria to better meet the surging global demand for high-voltage components, especially in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission and sustainable, air-cooled coil technologies.
“This expansion enables us to support the increasing needs of our key customers and the global energy transition,” said Ronald Schmid, Managing Director of Trench Austria. Major clients include Siemens Energy, Hitachi Energy, and General Electric.
The site’s workforce is expected to grow by 25%, from 320 to around 400 employees by 2028, with a strong focus on training and specialist development.
Thomas Stelzer, Governor of Upper Austria, praised the move as a vital signal of resilience and regional strength, stating it reinforces Upper Austria’s position as a hub for innovation and employment.
Trench Group, headquartered in Berlin, operates nine production facilities globally and employs over 2,600 people, providing critical components for the energy grid and the transition to sustainable power systems.
