UNITED KINGDOM — The electricity distribution networks operator UK Power Networks is replacing three power transformers as part of the Leicester Square substation upgrade project.
UK Power networks covers South East England, the East of England and London. With approval from the Westminster City Council, the company started the project of upgrading the underground electricity substation in Leicester Square in early November 2020.
Installed in 1991, the Leicester Square underground substation requires upgrades to ensure a reliable and secure electricity network for the future. The company is installing new modern equipment at the substation, which includes replacing three power transformers.
The ground above each transformer will be removed to enable replacement. The ground will then be reinstated while associated electrical works are being carried out underground. Electricity supplies will not be disrupted as a result of project works, the company said in a press release.
Project completion is planned for November 2022.
