The scorching desert metropolis of Phoenix, Arizona, is experiencing a surge in its appetite for electrical energy. In response to the rapidly growing demand, Reinhausen has secured the contract for the demolition, planning, and construction of a new substation in Maricopa, just 20 kilometers from Phoenix. The operator, Electric District 3 (ED3), entrusted Reinhausen's Arizona team with this crucial project, given their specialized expertise and experience.

Phoenix faces multifaceted challenges, from rapid population growth to extreme temperatures, and the increasing integration of solar energy into the grid. The city witnessed a temperature record of 46.7 degrees Celsius (116 degrees Fahrenheit) this year, highlighting the urgency of a robust electrical infrastructure. With nearly 3,900 hours of sunshine annually, Phoenix ranks among the sunniest cities globally and is a significant contributor to the U.S. solar power production landscape.

Steve Spragg, RM Manager Western Region at Reinhausen USA, emphasizes, "Phoenix's demand for electricity is growing exponentially." Reinhausen's construction subsidiary, formerly ESS, fully integrated into the Reinhausen Group since 2016, led the project in Maricopa, ensuring a seamless process from demolition to completion. The substation, vital for the region, underwent swift and dedicated reconstruction to meet the rising demands, with the project completed in approximately six months.

During the off-season, the entire station was temporarily disconnected for the reconstruction, demonstrating Reinhausen's commitment to minimizing disruptions. Spragg and his team invested extra effort, including weekends, to ensure the project's timely completion. ED3 Assistant General Manager Mike Bristol commended Reinhausen's expertise, stating, "With their knowledge and experience in substation construction, we could be sure that our project would be carried out properly, and quality would never be compromised."
