MALAYSIA — SGB-SMIT Group’s subsidiary SGB Malaysia (SGB MY) has been awarded the contract for more than 100 transformers for a major infrastructure project.
In January 2018, SGB Malaysia was commissioned to provide cast resin transformers for the country’s mass rapid transit (MRT) system.
A major infrastructure project has been initiated in the Klang Valley, the economic and technological center of Malaysia, which includes the capital Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Buloh and Putrajaya and has 8 million inhabitants.
The existing rail network in the conurbation is being expanded with an additional rail line. It is planned to have a length of just over 31 miles, of which about a quarter will be underground.
All the cast resin transformers provided by the manufacturer – with power ratings ranging from 160 kVA to 4,000 kVA – have successfully passed their tests and have been delivered.
The fully automated MRT system is expected to transport around half a million passengers, which would make it the fourth driverless line in the Klang Valley.
Project completion is expected in 2023.
