The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has successfully restored electricity to over 27,000 consumers in Mykolaiv and Sumy through the donation of 44 transformers. This effort comes as part of the ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine, aimed at rebuilding critical infrastructure following Russian attacks.
Bridget Brink, the United States Ambassador to Ukraine, announced on the social platform X that 42 transformers were delivered to Mykolaiv and two to Sumy. These transformers have been crucial in restoring power to 27,500 people affected by the conflict.
This aid is part of a broader initiative by the U.S. to assist Ukraine in maintaining and rebuilding its energy infrastructure. Alongside transformers, USAID will also provide 15 generators to four utility companies in Mykolaiv, supplementing the city's stockpile of 327 generators, which were acquired in anticipation of potential blackouts.
Moreover, local Mykolaiv authorities have implemented a partial compensation scheme for co-owners of apartment buildings who purchased energy generators and portable power plants during the last heating season. This initiative highlights the collective effort to ensure energy resilience in the region.
This support underscores the U.S. commitment to Ukraine during this challenging period, focusing on infrastructure recovery and energy security.
