WACO, TEXAS – VanTran Transformers, a custom transformer OEM, successfully completed a project for ArcelorMittal, one of the largest steelmakers in North America.
VanTran customized a 5 MVA transformer to fit in the place of a 51-year-old transformer on the second floor of an enclosed motor control room.
The transformer was engineered and built to exacting dimensions within inches of the existing transformer to ensure problem free installation and commissioning.
The new transformer had removable radiators outfitted after transformer placement due to depth restrictions in getting the unit into the second-floor room. Apart from fitting the new unit on the existing pad, the challenging installation also included aligning the air terminal chambers and bushings to match up with existing infrastructure.
