ROANOKE, VA, US — According to the company, the new unit is their second record-breaker in a year.
Virginia Transformer Corp recently announced that they have successfully finished and delivered the largest natural-ester-insulated transformer in the US to date in collaboration with Cargill, who equipped the unit with its eco-friendly insulation fluid. According to VTC, last year they delivered a 150 MVA transformer with FR3 fluid which was then the largest such unit in the US. The new transformer breaks this record with its 168 MVA.
The eco-friendly insulation fluid within the units maintains dielectric strength at low temperatures and serves as an alternative to the traditional mineral oil. According to the company, both the 150 MVA and 168 MVA transformers are being used to move energy for projects involving large data centres and due to the demanding application requirements of such data centres, were designed to achieve high efficiency, contain monitoring capability at DCIM level, require zero downtime, emit low sound, and fire-retardant.
