Virginia Transformer has supplied a 30/50 MVA, 92/34.5 kV power transformer for the Vega 5 solar energy project in Folsom, California. Designed for a 60-year service life, the generator step-up unit will support the integration of renewable energy into the grid.
Vega 5 is part of the Vega SES Complex, a large-scale solar and battery storage project under construction in Imperial County, California. Once completed, the complex will feature a 350 MW alternating current (AC) photovoltaic (PV) solar facility and an integrated 350 MW battery storage system. The project includes on-site substations, interconnection facilities, electrical equipment, and access roads, contributing to the state’s clean energy goals.
The addition of this transformer marks a critical step in enhancing grid stability and reliability as California continues its transition toward renewable energy.
