Virginia Transformer has successfully delivered a power transformer to the Vega 5 solar energy project in Folsom, California. The 30/50 MVA, 92/34.5 kV generator step-up unit is designed with a 60-year service life to help integrate renewable energy into the electrical grid.
The Vega 5 facility is part of the Vega SES Complex, a large-scale photovoltaic solar energy and battery storage project under development in Imperial County, California. Once completed, the Vega SES Complex will feature a 350 MW alternating current PV solar energy system and a 350 MW battery storage system, alongside substations, interconnection facilities, and electrical infrastructure.
The deployment of this power transformer marks a significant step in expanding California’s renewable energy capacity. This project aligns with the state’s commitment to a sustainable energy future, leveraging advanced grid infrastructure to enhance reliability and efficiency.
