Brussels, Belgium – The European Steel Association (EUROFER) has welcomed the European Commission’s Strategic Dialogue on Steel, convened by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The meeting, which brought together key industry representatives, is seen as a crucial step in addressing the current challenges faced by the European steel sector, including trade, energy, and carbon emissions.
During the discussion, Axel Eggert, Director General of EUROFER, stressed the importance of immediate action, stating, “The European steel industry faces unique, existential challenges that need to be addressed urgently. We are grateful that the Commission not only recognises these challenges but wants to collaborate with our industry to find the right solutions.”
The Steel Action Plan, which is set to be published later this month, is expected to outline the necessary measures to strengthen the sector, including steel safeguards and strategies to ensure a competitive energy environment for European industries.
Steel, particularly electrical steel, is essential for transformer manufacturing, especially for transformer cores. As EUROFER highlights, ensuring a strong, sustainable steel industry is key to maintaining the supply of these critical materials for the power sector.
