SOUTH AFRICA – The first of the two 500 MVA, 400 kV autotransformers manufactured by WEG in Brazil has been delivered to a customer in South Africa, with its twin to follow.
The 500 MVA, 400 kV autotransformer was manufactured at the WEG Transmission & Distribution factory in Blumenau, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The unit was then delivered to its final destination in the heart of South Africa, with reliance on strategic intermodal transport logistics, WEG said in a media release.
The unit was transported by ship from the port of Itajaí, Brazil across the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and unloaded at the port of Richards Bay, South Africa. From there it was transported by land and delivered to the customer.
The 348-ton unit was fully assembled and commissioned within 48 days, processing approximately 115,000 liters of oil and four days of electrical testing.
The autotransformer is soon to be joined by the second unit. With 500 MVA power rating and 400 kV voltage, the twin units are the largest produced by WEG to date, the manufacturer said in a media release.
