BRAZIL – WEG has supplied four mobile substations for ENEL’s network revitalization project in the State of Goiás.
ENEL serves 237 municipalities in Brazil and covers 98.7% of the State of Goiás. As part of a project to revitalize and strengthen the Enel Goiás containment system, WEG provided two mobile solutions for the company in 2020, rated 50 MVA and 33 MVA.
In June 2021, WEG supplied two more mobile substations, both rated 33 MVA. The destination sites are Trindade and Acreúna substations in the State of Goiás. Each mobile substation has the capacity to serve around 33,000 homes, WEG said in a press release.
“To replace a transformer with a more modern one, it would be necessary to set up a temporary substation, which would take several days. With a mobile unit, it is enough to relocate it to the substation, carry out technical and security tests and connect it to the system. The entire process was carried out in a few hours,” said Reginaldo Santos, Head of High Voltage Unity – Goiás at Enel Group.
Mobile substations enable the quick reestablishment of energy in case of divergence with some equipment or existing substation system, which may damage or interrupt the distribution of energy in the area.
For WEG, these supplies were an opportunity to promote mobile substations as a complete and reliable solution that plays an important part in strengthening and modernizing networks across Brazil.
