Rapperswil, Switzerland: Weidmann Electrical Technology, a global leader in insulation solutions for the transformer industry, has announced a strategic investment for the construction of a new greenfield Transformerboard production facility in China. This expansion is a key element of Weidmann's ongoing efforts to increase production capacity in response to rising market demand.
Spanning 38,000 square meters, this state-of-the-art facility will be a key component of Weidmann’s commitment to significantly increase production capacity in response to growing market demand. Construction is set to begin imminently, with the project expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
This latest announcement lifts the total capacity investments initiated in the last 12 months to over $220M (200M CHF) to date.
Weidmann’s previously announced expansions include a major enlargement of the Transformerboard production capacity in the US and new insulation components facilities in the USA and Mexico.
In Europe, a new site for Laminated Transformerboard, a significant enhancement to paper production sites, and further expansion of insulation component capacities across other European locations complement this next growth phase of the company.
“Our goal is to align our growth with the ambitious targets of our customers, ensuring that we, as an industry, can successfully meet the energy requirements of the future,” said Jurg Brunner, Head of Electrical Technology at Weidmann. “By expanding our footprint in China, we will not only better support Asia Pacific customers, but also optimize capacity at our existing Transformerboard machine locations, thereby strengthening our capabilities in other key markets.”
Maximilian Veit, CEO of the Weidmann Group adds: “This significant investment reaffirms Weidmann’s commitment to innovation, quality, and customer-centric growth, positioning the company to continue leading in the global transformer insulation market. We will continue to review additional measures to further align our capacity with increasing customer demand.”
