Adelaide, AUSTRALIA - After months of planning and preparation, large power transformer ends its seven-day journey.
Willson Transformer Company announced that the seven-day journey of their transformer to South Australia has come to an end yesterday.
Covering more than 1000 km (621.37 mi) in seven days, their 160/278 MVA 275/33/33 kV power transformer has finally arrived safely at Torrens Island power station in Adelaide, marking an important milestone for the power station’s 250 MW grid-scale battery project. This has been a complex and dynamic operation that required months of planning and preparation.
According to the company, over the next few days, the transformer should be unloaded from the beam set and skated into its final position using hydraulic rams and steel beams. The installation of the unit should take several weeks, which should include site assembly, oil filling and site testing. Their Service team should work closely with partners to complete the installation and prepare the transformer for use to support South Australia’s energy transition.
