NKT Selected as Preferred Bidder for Eastern Green Link 3 Project
NKT has been named the preferred bidder for the Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) project by the joint venture of SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission.
The project involves a 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector cable system with a route of approximately 680 kilometres, linking power grids in Scotland and England. Once completed, the system is expected to play a key role in strengthening the UK's transmission network and supporting its transition to cleaner energy.
According to Claes Westerlind, President and CEO of NKT, the selection highlights the company's experience in delivering large-scale HVDC turnkey projects. Westerlind added that EGL3 represents both a continuation of collaboration with SSEN Transmission and National Grid, and a significant step in the decarbonisation of Great Britain's electricity system.
The EGL3 transmission link forms part of a wider UK investment programme aimed at upgrading the electricity transmission infrastructure. This initiative is designed to improve resilience and efficiency while facilitating the delivery of renewable energy across the country.
