Nordex Group has secured a contract from Grupo Enhol for the supply and installation of six N163/5.X wind turbines at the Caparroso wind farm in Navarra, Spain. The project is part of a broader repowering initiative that will see 42 older turbines replaced with six modern units, each generating 5.7 MW. Upon completion, the farm will reach a total installed capacity of 34.2 MW.

The turbines feature 120-meter towers and 163-meter rotor diameters. Manufacturing will be split between Spain and Germany: towers, blades, and nacelles will be produced in Spain, while hubs and drive train components come from Germany. Installation is scheduled to begin in July 2026, with commissioning planned for February 2027. The contract also includes a 20-year service agreement.

The Caparroso project is one of four repowering projects currently being undertaken by Grupo Enhol, all deemed strategically important by the government of Navarra. Other projects include Serralta, San Gregorio, and La Bandera wind farms. The combined program aims to modernize aging wind infrastructure, extending operational lifespans from 20–25 years to around 30 years.

This initiative aligns with Spain’s Circular Repowering Programme, which encourages the replacement of outdated turbines with higher-capacity models, boosting efficiency and renewable energy output. With over 20,000 MW of Spain’s 27,000 MW wind capacity older than 15 years, repowering is increasingly a priority for the country’s sustainable energy strategy.
