Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires Secure Major Offshore Wind Farm in Occitanie

30 Dec 2024
The French government has granted the Eoliennes Flottantes d'Occitanie (EFLO) project--a 250 MW floating offshore wind farm in the Gulf of Lion, Mediterranean Sea--to Ocean Winds (OW) and Banque des Territoires under the AO6 offshore wind tender. The project, capable of producing 1 TWh of renewable electricity annually, will power nearly 500,000 homes in the Occitanie region.

This collaboration builds on the success of previous offshore wind initiatives by the two partners, including the Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) and two 500 MW projects in France. The EFLO project will create five million work hours during its development and operational phases and is expected to foster local employment.

Craig Windram, CEO of Ocean Winds, emphasized the company's commitment to France's energy transition, citing its global expertise in offshore wind energy and existing portfolio of 18.8 GW. Emmanuel Legrand, Director at Banque des Territoires, highlighted the group's dedication to ecological transformation through this pioneering floating wind project.

The EFLO project represents a significant step forward in advancing renewable energy in France, strengthening local industrial capabilities, and contributing to national energy goals.
