Offshore Wind Academy Expands Globally to Meet Industry Skills Demand
Offshore Wind Academy (OWA), formerly known as the American Offshore Wind Academy (AOWA), has announced its global expansion to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the offshore wind industry. This strategic move reflects the organization's mission to close the international skills gap as the sector continues its rapid growth worldwide.
Over 50% of AOWA's 2025 learners originated from Europe and Asia, signaling a clear need for more accessible and region-specific training. In response, OWA will roll out a new global platform, supported by a scalable Learning Management System (LMS), to deliver self-paced, asynchronous training across time zones.
"Expanding into the Offshore Wind Academy allows us to meet global demand--offering training across time zones and tailored to local contexts," said Serene Hamsho, Founder & President of the academy.
OWA is actively developing partnerships in emerging markets such as Japan, Canada, Australia, and Romania, alongside its focus on established wind energy leaders like the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, and Norway. Course content will be localized to address the technical and regulatory needs of each region.
Jim Bennet, OWA Advisory Board Member and former Chief at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), emphasized, "Offshore wind is a global effort, and so is the need for a skilled workforce."
The global expansion marks a milestone in offshore wind training, helping individuals and organizations contribute to the clean energy transition more effectively.
