In a landmark move, the Ontario government has unveiled the results of its Long-Term Request for Proposals (LT1 RFP), marking the culmination of Canada's largest-ever battery storage procurement initiative.

The Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO) announced the selection of 10 proponents in the Storage Category, securing a combined capacity of 1,784 MW. Additionally, three proponents were successful in the Non-Storage Category, contributing 410.7 MW of natural gas and on-farm biogas generation, bringing the total to 2,195 MW.

Contracts are now being offered to the 13 selected proponents, with storage projects ranging from 9 MW to 390 MW of maximum contracted capacity. The two largest projects, Grey Owl Storage (380 MW) and Skyview 2 (390 MW), are set to be located in the municipality of Arran-Elderslie and the township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal, respectively.

This significant expansion will bolster Ontario's storage fleet to 26 facilities, totaling 2,916 MW, surpassing the government's initial target of 2,500 MW and solidifying the province's position as a leader in energy storage deployment.
