Ørsted and DSV tests cargo drones at Anholt Offshore Wind Farm

5 Jul 2022

Anholt, DENMARK - What if we could deliver spare parts for our offshore wind turbines using a cargo drone?

Ørsted announced that together with DSV - Global Transport and Logistics, they are testing the potential of long-distance drones for transporting spare parts and tools to Anholt Offshore Wind Farm in Denmark. They could provide a fast and efficient alternative to ships, especially for small spare parts, contributing to a much faster wind turbine restart, increased production of clean energy, and ultimately reduced carbon emissions from operating an offshore wind farm.

According to Ørsted, the drones are powered by renewable electricity and should fly autonomously to the offshore substation initially, but they are hoping to test them on flights all the way out to the wind turbines at a later stage.
