Palisade to Acquire 240MW Battery Project in South Australia

14 Apr 2026

Palisade Investment Partners has agreed to acquire a 100% stake in the Summerfield battery energy storage system (BESS) from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, via its renewable platform Intera Renewables.

The Summerfield project, located approximately 50 km east of Adelaide, has a capacity of 240 MWac and 960 MWh, positioning it among the larger battery storage developments in the region. Construction began in February 2025, with commercial operations expected in late 2026.

The project includes a long-term tolling agreement with Origin Energy, providing contracted revenue stability once operational. Palisade is acquiring the asset during the construction phase, following development and partial build-out by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. Simon Parbery, Partner at Palisade, said:

“We are excited to be working with CIP in delivering this significant project for our investors, and Australia’s broader clean energy transition goals. Summerfield represents Palisade’s second investment in large scale energy storage, providing both attractive risk-adjusted returns to investors, and long-term strategic value to our Australian renewables platform Intera Renewables.”

Blue Power Partners will continue managing construction through to completion, after which asset management will transfer to Palisade’s internal services arm.

The transaction expands Palisade’s renewable energy portfolio, which now totals approximately 2.5 GW of capacity, including 2.2 GW in Australia. The investment is held through Intera Renewables, backed by institutional investors including the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Aware Super, and HESTA. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners will exit the project after advancing it through development and construction, while continuing to pursue additional renewable energy investments across Australia.

The deal highlights growing investor demand for large-scale battery storage assets, which play a critical role in balancing renewable energy supply. Projects like Summerfield support grid stability and offer predictable revenue through long-term agreements. Australia is emerging as a key market for grid-scale battery storage, driven by its high penetration of wind and solar energy. South Australia, in particular, has become a leading test case for renewable-heavy power systems, increasing the need for flexible storage solutions.
