PG&E Announces $43M in Grants for Nine Community Microgrids in Northern California

1 Apr 2025
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has announced its commitment to fund nine new community microgrids across Northern and Central California through its Microgrid Incentive Program (MIP). A total of $43 million will be allocated to selected projects aimed at enhancing energy resilience in disadvantaged communities vulnerable to power outages.

The microgrids will serve critical community infrastructure, including hospitals, police and fire stations, water treatment plants, and residential areas. Four of the nine projects will support tribal communities. In total, nearly 9,000 customers, including 3,600 individuals with Access and Functional Needs, will benefit from these energy resilience solutions.

Selected projects will receive between $1 million and $6 million, with the majority of funds directed toward solar, battery energy storage, pumped hydroelectric, small hydroelectric, and biomass solutions. Additionally, each project will be allocated up to $1 million to cover interconnection costs.

Applications for the second wave of MIP grant funding open on April 3, 2025, with submissions due by May 30, 2025.
