PNE Sells 240 MW Photovoltaic Project to NOA Group in South Africa

11 Apr 2024

In a move signaling further expansion in the renewable energy sector, PNE AG has announced the sale of a 240 MW photovoltaic project to the NOA Group Ltd. in South Africa. Set to be implemented in the Free State province, known for its robust mining and agricultural sectors, the Khauta project is expected to reach full development by mid-2024.

Markus Lesser, CEO of PNE AG, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "South Africa is an exciting market. With NOA, we have a strong partner with whom we are one step closer to a secure power supply through clean energy." The project, facilitated through WKN Windcurrent, a subsidiary of PNE Group, signifies a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions in the region.

Karel Cornelissen, CEO of NOA, highlighted the importance of the Khauta project for their portfolio, stating, "As NOA, together with the support of our shareholder, African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), we aspire to make a meaningful contribution towards solving the immediate energy supply deficit in South Africa." This venture marks NOA's entry into large-scale solar facilities, aligning with their commitment to renewable energy solutions.

PNE has been active in South Africa since 2010 and currently has wind and PV projects under development totaling around 4 GW/GWp as of the end of 2023. With this latest collaboration, both PNE and NOA are poised to make substantial contributions to South Africa's energy landscape, furthering the country's transition towards sustainable and reliable power sources.
