Poland’s Hynfra Unveils $1.6 Billion Green Ammonia Plant in Egypt

2 Dec 2024
Hynfra, a Poland-based renewable energy company, has announced plans to construct a major green ammonia plant in Egypt, leveraging the country's abundant solar and wind resources. The facility, projected to cost $1.6 billion initially, aims to produce 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually by 2030 in its first phase. Future plans include scaling production to one million tons per year, with investments potentially reaching $10.6 billion.

This project aligns with the European Union's 2030 sustainability targets, which include importing six million tons of green hydrogen and four million tons of green ammonia. Green ammonia, produced using clean energy, is a critical component in reducing global carbon emissions and meeting rising global demand for renewable energy solutions.

Strategically located, Egypt offers vast renewable energy potential and proximity to both Middle Eastern and European markets, making it a key player in the transition to greener energy. The facility will incorporate advanced technologies, including water treatment, electrolysis, and storage systems, ensuring efficient and sustainable operations.

This development underscores Egypt's ambitions to become a green energy hub in the MENA region, attracting international investments and fostering economic growth through renewable infrastructure.
