Portland General Electric (PGE) has reached a historic milestone, producing over one gigawatt of wind-generated electricity, a first for the company. This achievement was largely driven by the addition of the Clearwater Wind Energy Center, which has contributed 311 megawatts of clean energy to PGE's grid.

Located in Montana, the Clearwater facility is a joint venture between PGE, which owns 208 megawatts, and NextEra Energy Resources. The project has proven to be a key component in supporting PGE's efforts to provide reliable, emissions-free energy to Oregon customers, particularly during peak winter and summer demand periods. In 2024 alone, the company reached its maximum wind generation capacity of over one gigawatt 25 times, setting a new record with a peak of 1,056 megawatts in February.

The facility not only enhances PGE's renewable energy portfolio but also contributes to the local economy by creating jobs and supporting the community. With its consistent wind patterns, the Clearwater Wind Energy Center provides a stable and efficient energy source, reducing the need for costlier and less sustainable alternatives.

Maria Pope, PGE President and CEO, emphasized the importance of diverse energy sources, stating, "Sourcing energy from diverse geographies improves reliability at lower costs for customers."
