Revolution Wind Begins Delivering Electricity to New England Grid
Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables’ joint venture Revolution Wind has started delivering electricity to the New England grid, marking a major milestone for the 704 MW offshore wind project.
The wind farm, located off the coasts of Rhode Island and Connecticut, comprises 65 Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbines. Once fully commissioned in the second half of 2026, Revolution Wind is expected to provide enough electricity to power over 350,000 homes and businesses across the two states.
According to the developers, the project could save New England ratepayers USD 500 million per year in wholesale energy costs, citing an analysis by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Construction faced several delays due to federal stop-work orders. In August 2025, the U.S. Department of the Interior issued a halt, which the developers legally challenged, arguing the order lacked statutory authority. Another pause in December 2025 affected all five U.S. offshore wind projects under construction, citing national security concerns. Courts later granted a preliminary injunction, allowing the final turbines to be installed.
The start of electricity delivery represents a significant step toward fully commissioning Revolution Wind, reinforcing the role of offshore wind in renewable energy expansion and supporting sustainable electricity supply in New England.
