In an innovative move towards sustainable emergency response, Mesa's Fire and Medical Department proudly announces the deployment of its first all-electric fire truck. Located at Fire Station 221 in southeast Mesa, the cutting-edge pumper truck, manufactured by E-ONE®, a subsidiary of REV Group, Inc., is Arizona's pioneer in North American-style electric firefighting engines.

This initiative aligns with the City of Mesa's Climate Action Plan, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050. Mayor John Giles expressed his enthusiasm for transitioning city vehicles to electric power, emphasizing the potential cost-savings and efficiency gains. The new fire truck boasts low to no carbon emissions, reduced noise pollution, and impressive performance metrics, including the ability to pump four hose lines at 750 gallons per minute for four hours on a single charge.

Councilmember Scott Somers highlights the symbolic significance of situating the electric fire truck in southeast Mesa, an area known for its innovation mindset. Fire Station 221 is equipped with a fast-charging station, ensuring the truck can be fully recharged in approximately 3.5 hours. The station, designed for firefighter health and safety, includes features such as positive pressure airflow and exhaust capturing systems.
