Revolutionizing Home Energy: Ford F-150 Lightning and Resideo Smart Thermostat Join Forces

11 Dec 2023
Ford and Resideo Technologies, Inc. have embarked on an unprecedented joint venture, introducing the "EV-Home Power Partnership". This pioneering simulation project aims to explore the potential of electric vehicle (EV) batteries to optimize home energy management, offering F-150 Lightning owners the prospect of monthly electric bill savings, increased comfort, and more efficient energy use.
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Ford and Resideo are leveraging Ford's Intelligent Backup Power technology, the first-of-its-kind for a full-size electric truck in North America. The simulation project investigates how Resideo's smart thermostats can be integrated with the F-150 Lightning's battery to intelligently power home heating and cooling systems. The goal is to assess how this coordination can reduce overall home energy needs during grid stress, minimize usage during peak hours, and potentially tap into cleaner energy sources.
"Driving electric is unlocking an entirely new world of personal energy management that could not only save our customers time and money but also help support a more sustainable energy grid," stated Bill Crider, head of global charging and energy services at Ford Motor Company. The project is poised to give EV drivers confidence and provide utilities with innovative solutions for vehicle-to-grid services.
Dana Huth, EVP and Chief Revenue Officer at Resideo, highlighted the potential environmental impact, stating, "With this EV Power Partnership project, we can discover new ways for F-150 Lightning owners to utilize their EV battery to power their home's heating and cooling, creating energy-efficient ecosystems between trusted global brands."
The project, slated for completion in the first half of 2024, is a testament to the automotive and home technology industries' commitment to sustainability and innovation, envisioning a future where electric vehicles seamlessly integrate with smart home solutions for the benefit of consumers and the electric grid.
