Rinnai Corp. Acquires Smart Energy to Enter Australia’s Solar Market

13 Aug 2024

Rinnai Corp., a Japanese company recognized for its heating, cooling, and hot water systems, has acquired Australian solar and battery systems supplier Smart Energy. This strategic acquisition marks Rinnai's entry into Australia's rapidly growing residential solar and battery energy storage market.

Established in 2016 in New South Wales, Smart Energy has become one of Australia's largest residential renewable energy companies, with 15 offices and over 300 employees nationwide. The company specializes in selling and installing residential rooftop solar systems, battery energy storage solutions, and heat pumps.

Lucas van Raay, Managing Director of Rinnai Australia, highlighted that the acquisition will enhance both companies' capabilities in the renewable energy sector. The integration of Smart Energy's renewable expertise with Rinnai's existing product offerings aims to accelerate the adoption of solar power in Australia.

Elliot Hayes, co-founder of Smart Energy, expressed optimism about the acquisition, emphasizing that the partnership with Rinnai will enable the company to leverage manufacturing expertise to enhance product quality and customer value.

This move by Rinnai aligns with Australia's commitment to carbon neutrality and the increasing demand for residential solar power systems, positioning the company to offer fully integrated renewable energy solutions across the country.
