Romania Allocates €150 Million to Support Battery Storage Development

21 Jan 2025
Romania's Ministry of Energy has announced a €150 million funding program aimed at promoting the development of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the country. The program, which will be financed through the Modernization Fund, is specifically targeting standalone storage facilities.

The initiative is designed to support a variety of entities, including microenterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large enterprises, and autonomous authorities. Eligible participants must be legally registered in Romania or any other EU member state.

The funding will be distributed through a competitive bidding process, where proposals will be ranked based on the value of requested state aid per MWh of storage capacity. The program's goal is to enhance Romania's energy infrastructure, increase energy storage capabilities, and support the country's transition to renewable energy.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the program will help reduce the dependency on traditional energy sources while boosting the growth of clean energy technologies in the country.
