RWE Expands U.S. Solar Portfolio with Meta Partnership

15 Aug 2024

RWE has secured two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta for the supply of renewable energy from its two solar farms currently under construction in the U.S. The combined capacity of the projects is 374 megawatts (MW), with the County Run Solar project in Illinois contributing 274 MW and the Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana adding 100 MW.

Both projects are slated for commissioning in late 2025 and are part of RWE's broader strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint in the U.S. Meta, one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy, will use the electricity generated to support its operations with 100% renewable energy.

Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, emphasized the significance of this partnership, highlighting RWE's commitment to driving decarbonization and economic growth in the communities where these projects are based. Urvi Parekh, Head of Renewable Energy at Meta, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, underscoring its role in helping Meta meet its sustainability goals.

These agreements not only mark RWE's expansion into new territories like Louisiana but also reinforce its position as a leading renewable energy provider in the U.S.
