RWE Secures $60m Off-Take Deal for 200-MW Indiana Wind Project
RWE AG has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the full output of its 200-MW Prairie Creek Wind Farm in Indiana, the German energy group announced on Thursday.
Under the 15-year agreement, Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), a unit of American Electric Power (NASDAQ:AEP), will purchase all electricity generated by the project. The 51-turbine wind farm is expected to produce enough green energy to meet the annual demand of approximately 42,000 homes.
Construction at Prairie Creek, located in Blackford County, is already underway, with commercial operations planned to begin in 2028. RWE estimates the project will generate $60 million (€51 million) in new local tax revenue and create around 240 jobs during the construction phase.
The PPA will help I&M diversify its energy mix and supports Indiana’s all-of-the-above energy strategy, which aims to address growing power demand in the Midwestern state while advancing renewable energy deployment.
