RWE Texas Wind Projects to Use 100+ GE Vernova Turbines

19 Mar 2025
GE Vernova will supply 109 US-made wind turbines for two RWE wind projects in Texas, with a total capacity of 308 megawatts (MW). The projects include the repowering of the 127 MW Forest Creek Wind Farm and the construction of the 181 MW Honey Mesquite Wind Farm in Glasscock County.

The Forest Creek project, originally commissioned in 2006, is undergoing a full upgrade. Construction has begun, with 45 new GE Vernova turbines replacing aging infrastructure to extend the wind farm's lifespan by 30 years. The site is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. RWE is partnering with Wanzek Construction, a MasTec Renewables company, to recycle or repurpose decommissioned turbines.

The Honey Mesquite Wind Farm, scheduled to break ground in fall 2025, will add 181 MW of new wind capacity and is set for completion in late 2026.

These projects will create hundreds of construction jobs and contribute millions in economic activity to the region. RWE, the third-largest renewable energy company in the US, has invested $9 billion in Texas since 2007.

Scott Stalica, executive director of North American commercial operations at GE Vernova, emphasized the role of these projects in strengthening US energy security and supporting job creation.

Texas remains the nation's leader in wind energy, generating nearly 30% of the country's total wind-powered electricity in 2023, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
