Shell Signs Five-Year PPA with Nordsee One Offshore Wind Farm
Shell has signed a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Northland Power to buy roughly one-third of the electricity generated by Germany’s Nordsee One offshore wind farm. The agreement is set to begin in June 2027.
Nordsee One, commissioned in 2017, consists of 54 turbines with an operational capacity of 332 MW. Northland Power owns an 85% stake, while RWE holds the remaining 15%. The project currently operates under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), which is expected to phase out by 2027.
Christine Healy, CEO of Northland Power, stated that the agreement supports Shell’s energy transition goals and allows the facility to continue delivering renewable electricity to Europe. The deal demonstrates the growing role of corporate PPAs in financing and stabilizing offshore wind projects, ensuring long-term revenue for developers while supporting corporate sustainability commitments.
This agreement is part of Shell’s broader strategy to secure renewable energy for its operations and reduce its carbon footprint, highlighting the increasing collaboration between energy developers and corporate buyers in Europe’s offshore wind sector.
