Siemens Gamesa to Supply Turbines for Luxcara’s Largest Offshore Wind Project
Luxcara has reserved 97 offshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for its flagship 1,500 MW Waterekke project, located in the German North Sea, with commissioning planned for 2029.
The Hamburg-based clean energy asset manager finalized a capacity reservation agreement with Siemens Gamesa, securing 15.5 MW turbines (including power boost) through an international tender. The Waterekke project was awarded in August 2024 and is being developed by Waterekke Energy GmbH on site N-9.3.
Luxcara is also evaluating the use of Siemens Gamesa turbines for its adjacent 300 MW Waterkant project (site N-6.7), potentially bundling procurement and operations. As a contingency, the company has also reserved 19 additional turbines of the same type.
Holger Matthiesen, Managing Director of both project companies, said: "We are pleased to have reserved 97 wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa for this project alone. To explore possible synergies, we are examining the possibility of using Siemens Gamesa turbines for the neighboring Waterkant project as well."
Both projects have submitted approval documentation to Germany's Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) and communicated potential changes to relevant authorities.
When completed, the two wind farms will have a combined capacity of 1,800 MW, generating enough clean electricity for up to 2.4 million households, and supporting Germany's 30 GW offshore wind target by 2030.
