Soluna Acquires 150 MW Texas Wind Farm for New 300 MW AI Data Center
Soluna has acquired the 150 MW Briscoe Wind Farm in West Texas for $53 million, to power its planned 300 MW Project Dorothy 3 data center. The wind farm is adjacent to Soluna’s existing Dorothy 1 and Dorothy 2 facilities.
The Briscoe Wind Farm comprises 81 turbines and was developed by Juwi in 2015. Prior to the acquisition, the asset was owned by Capital Dynamics Inc. Soluna plans to use the farm along with a firm grid connection to provide renewable energy to its new AI-focused data center.
John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna, described the acquisition as a “transformative step” toward energy sovereignty for the company. He emphasized that owning the wind farm secures the foundational infrastructure to operate a utility-scale digital campus capable of supporting high-performance computing and generative AI workloads.
Currently, Soluna operates 123 MW of renewable-powered capacity across 11 data center sites, including Project Rosa (187 MW, Texas), Dorothy I A & B (50 MW), Dorothy II (48 MW), Project Sophie (25 MW, Kentucky), and Grace (2 MW, Texas). The timeline for Project Dorothy 3 development has not been disclosed.
The acquisition highlights the growing trend of data center operators securing dedicated renewable energy sources to support AI infrastructure and cryptocurrency mining, combining sustainability with digital scale.
