Spanish-owned Ferrovial wins $60m contract to build 72MW solar plant in Texas

Huston, Texas - Spanish infrastructure company Ferrovial has secured a $60m contract to construct a 72 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Houston, Texas for energy firm X-Elio.

The project will be built by Ferrovial Webber Energy, a joint venture between Ferrovial Energy Solutions and Webber. The contract covers engineering, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance during the initial few years.

Ferrovial's expertise in building large-scale infrastructures across the globe makes it a reliable partner for companies looking to complete complex projects. The plant is expected to generate an estimated annual production of 137GWh of electricity, sufficient to supply energy to around 9,500 homes. The project will result in the reduction of more than 85,000 tonnes of annual CO2 emissions.

Ferrovial's first contract in the North American energy infrastructure construction market marks a significant step for the company. The Ferrovial Energy Solutions is part of the company's Horizon 24 sustainability plan and is committed to working on renewable energy projects. It has completed other projects in this field, including the construction of the El Berrocal solar photovoltaic plant in Seville and the Cabo Leones wind farm in Chile. The completion of the Houston plant is expected in the second quarter of 2024.
