Super Bowl to be hosted in first 100% renewable energy NFL stadium

8 Feb 2024

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas secures 10 MW of off-site solar energy, complemented by wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power sources, in addition to various sustainability initiatives.

Super Bowl LVIII, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers, will mark a historic event as it takes place in Las Vegas's Allegiant Stadium, the first 100% renewable energy-powered venue for the Super Bowl. Allegiant Stadium, home to the Raiders, harnesses solar energy through a 25-year agreement with NV Energy, subscribing to a portion of a massive 621,000 solar panel system. The $1.9 billion stadium also focuses on energy efficiency and emissions reduction, holding LEED Gold certification and utilizing hydroelectric, geothermal, and wind power. Additionally, sustainability measures include waste diversion, food scrap collection, cigarette waste conversion into energy, and eco-friendly grass management on the field. Chris Wright, General Manager of Allegiant Stadium, emphasizes the ongoing commitment to sustainable policies and environmental responsibility.
