The Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has initiated the authorization process for a new underground power line that will span 5.8 km across the Arenella and Fuorigrotta districts in the Naples metropolitan area. Terna, led by CEO Giuseppina Di Foggia, is investing approximately €16 million in the project, which includes a 220kV underground cable connecting the Arenella and Fuorigrotta Primary Cabins.

This investment is part of Terna's "Restructuring of the City of Naples 220 kV Grid" initiative, designed to improve electrical service reliability, increase safety, and reduce load disconnection risks. By expanding capacity along the Astroni-Doganella line, the project aims to provide a more secure power supply for Naples' urban areas.

In collaboration with the Municipality of Naples, Terna has strategically planned the route for the cable to minimize disruption by primarily using the existing road network. The positioning of the new line was developed through the Permanent Coordination Committee, established in 2020, after a cooperative agreement was signed to address the city's power infrastructure needs.

Landowners and residents affected by the proposed route can review project documents at the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and Naples Municipality offices. Written comments on the project may be submitted to the Ministry and Terna within 30 days following the notice.
