TotalEnergies Acquires 435 MW of UK Solar and Battery Projects from Low Carbon

TotalEnergies is making another move into the UK renewables market, acquiring a major pipeline of solar and battery projects from British developer Low Carbon.

The deal includes eight solar sites totaling 350 MW and two battery storage projects adding another 85 MW of capacity. All are located in the south of England and are expected to be up and running by 2028--producing enough electricity to power roughly 100,000 homes.

The acquisition adds weight to TotalEnergies' growing integrated power business in the UK, where it already holds stakes in offshore wind, gas-fired power, and solar developments. It also aligns with the UK government's Clean Power 2030 ambition to decarbonize the grid.

"This portfolio complements our renewable footprint in the UK," said Olivier Jouny, SVP of Renewables at TotalEnergies. "It strengthens our ambition to deliver reliable, clean power across the country."

Low Carbon founder and CEO Roy Bedlow called it one of the largest ready-to-build portfolios in the UK market. "These are high-quality projects that will have a real impact--and this deal helps us reinvest in the next wave of renewables."

TotalEnergies is aiming for 35 GW of renewable capacity by the end of 2025, part of a broader global strategy to shift away from fossil fuels and toward what it calls "clean firm power"--a mix of renewables, gas, and storage to stabilize supply.
