TotalEnergies Launches Six New BESS Projects in Germany

27 Mar 2025
TotalEnergies is launching six new battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Germany, adding 221 MW of storage capacity to its existing 100 MW under construction. The company is investing $172 million in these projects to strengthen grid stability and support renewable energy integration.

The projects were developed by Kyon Energy, a TotalEnergies affiliate acquired in 2024, and will primarily use next-generation batteries from Saft, another TotalEnergies subsidiary specializing in advanced battery technology. Construction began in late 2024, with commissioning scheduled for early 2026.

With operations in clean power production, trading, and aggregation, TotalEnergies is expanding its role in Germany's energy market. These storage projects will help reduce grid congestion, enhance flexibility, and facilitate renewable energy adoption.

By leveraging Saft's expertise, the company aims to deliver high-performance BESS solutions that contribute to a more resilient and efficient power system.
