Tunisia Plans Green Hydrogen Milestone with 2030 Project Launch

4 Dec 2024
Tunisia is set to inaugurate its first green hydrogen project in 2030, marking a pivotal step in its energy transition strategy. According to Wael Shoshan, Secretary of State for Energy Transition at the Tunisian Industry, Mines and Energy Ministry, project feasibility studies are underway and expected to conclude within 2-4 years.

The initiative aligns with Tunisia's ambitious plans to become a major exporter of green hydrogen, primarily targeting European markets. Speaking at an international hydrogen conference in Gabes, Shoshan highlighted the potential for these projects to drive economic growth and establish Tunisia as a key player in renewable energy.

To support this goal, Tunisia has partnered with leading global companies, including ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia and Total Energies from France, alongside other firms. These collaborations are part of a broader strategy to produce over 8 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2050.

The 2030 milestone is expected to enhance Tunisia's position in the global hydrogen economy and contribute significantly to achieving regional sustainability goals.
