UK Greenlights One of Europe’s Largest Offshore Wind Projects
The UK government has approved the Dogger Bank South offshore wind project, a major development in the North Sea with a planned capacity of up to 3 GW.
The project is being developed by RWE AG and Masdar, and includes two offshore wind farm sites along with associated offshore and onshore infrastructure, including substations and grid connections.
According to the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the approval supports the country’s “Clean Power 2030” strategy, which aims to significantly expand offshore wind capacity by the end of the decade.
The project is expected to become one of the largest offshore wind developments in Europe, contributing to the UK’s long-term renewable energy and decarbonisation targets.
The development was previously reviewed through the UK planning process, with the final decision following the completion of regulatory assessments in 2025.
