Uniper Advances Battery Storage and Solar Projects in Germany and Scotland

12 Dec 2025

Uniper SE has taken key steps to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Europe, moving forward with a 50-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Germany and a 45-MWac/68.8-MWdc solar park in Scotland.

The Berryhill Solar Farm, located north of Dundee, will be Uniper’s first photovoltaic (PV) project in Scotland. Developed in partnership with Solar2, the farm will feature approximately 152,000 solar panels, producing enough electricity to power over 12,500 homes annually. Construction is expected to begin early next year, with the site energised later in 2026. The project received planning approval from Angus Council in 2022 and was modified in 2024 following Solar2’s submissions.

In Germany, Uniper secured approval to construct a 50-MW BESS at the former Wilhelmshaven coal-fired power station in Lower Saxony. This project forms part of a broader transformation of the site into a regional energy transition hub, including a solar park expected to generate 17,500 MWh of green electricity by July 2026.

These developments underscore Uniper’s commitment to renewable energy and energy storage, aligning with broader European efforts to decarbonise the power sector and enhance grid stability.
