Acciona Energía Sells U.S. Solar and Mexico Wind Assets in $1 Billion Deal

Acciona Energía has agreed to sell a minority stake in its U.S. solar portfolio and fully divest two Mexico wind assets in a transaction valued at approximately $1 billion (€855 million), the company said.

The deal includes the sale of a 49% stake in a 1.3-gigawatt U.S. solar portfolio to Mexico Infrastructure Partners (MIP), while Acciona Energía will retain a 51% controlling interest and continue to operate and manage the assets. The solar portfolio comprises four utility-scale projects located in Texas, Illinois, and Ohio.

In Mexico, the transaction covers the sale of 100% ownership of the El Cortijo and Santa Cruz wind farms in Tamaulipas, which together represent 321 megawatts of installed capacity.

The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, finalization of transaction conditions, and financing secured by MIP.

The sale aligns with Acciona Energía’s capital recycling strategy, allowing the company to monetize operating assets while maintaining long-term exposure in priority markets such as the United States. Proceeds are expected to support balance sheet strengthening and reinvestment into new renewable growth opportunities.

The deal reflects continued investor interest in contracted renewable energy infrastructure across North America, particularly operating assets with stable cash flows amid higher interest rates and regulatory uncertainty.
