Black & Veatch Acquires Bird Electric to Expand World-class Capabilities and Integrated Solutions Offerings

Global engineering, procurement, consulting, and construction company Black & Veatch has acquired Bird Electric Enterprises and Bird Electric Properties, both part of BASElectric Holdings.

The deal, made in response to growing demand for construction solutions to address megatrends affecting the world, will combine key industry engineering, construction, and procurement talent and business enabling resources to accelerate the growth of both companies.

With over 600 employees, Bird Electric is a self-performing electrical construction services provider to electric utility clients with a national reach in emergency power restoration, a key area of growth for Black & Veatch. Bird Electric's capabilities are also relevant and applicable to other adjacent linear and distributed construction markets and solutions that Black & Veatch serves. The acquisition will enable Bird Electric to operate as a Black & Veatch Company with enhanced capabilities and reach in the growing Grid Solutions market, including new transmission and distribution infrastructure and restoration, as well as in adjacent linear and distributed infrastructure markets and solutions such as EV charging, renewables, and connectivity.

Black & Veatch's Chairman & CEO, Mario Azar, described the acquisition as "historic," building upon the company's world-class capabilities and integrated solutions offerings. Bird Electric's founder and now President of Bird Electric, a Black & Veatch Company, Brian Bird, added that the acquisition would provide "great opportunities to expand the reach and apply the knowledge we have gained working together to meet clients' growing demands in new markets."
