Iberdrola Sells Hungarian Wind Business for $188 Million

Iberdrola has agreed to sell its Hungarian subsidiary, Iberdrola Renovables Magyarország KFT, to a consortium formed by Premier Energy and Hungarian group iG TECH CC for a total consideration of approximately $188 million (€171.2 million).

The deal covers 158 megawatts (MW) of operational wind capacity developed since 2008. Of this, 124 MW already operate in Hungary's free market, while the remaining 34 MW will transition once their 15-year regulated tariff contracts expire within a year.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and includes both the share transfer and a pre-closing dividend distribution.

For Iberdrola, the sale reflects a broader asset rotation strategy, focusing on electricity networks in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as regulated or long-term contracted generation assets. It also supports the company's plan to concentrate international activities in core EU markets and Australia.

The deal follows other strategic moves in 2025, including the sale of Iberdrola's businesses in Mexico and a $5.72 billion (€5.2 billion) partnership with Masdar to develop the 1.4 gigawatt East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm in the UK.
