Scatec Starts Construction of 77 MW Urleasca Wind Project in Romania

Scatec has secured financing and started construction of its 77 MW Urleasca onshore wind project in Romania, marking the company’s entry into European onshore wind.

The project has an estimated cost of $196 million (€168 million), excluding VAT, and is supported by a Contract-for-Difference (CfD) covering around 57% of expected production. Erste Group and Banca Comerciala Română (BCR) are arranging the debt financing.

OX2 will manage construction through commissioning, while Scatec will provide operations and maintenance services after completion. Commercial operations are targeted for the second half of 2028.

“Urleasca marks Scatec’s entry into European onshore wind and strengthens our position in Romania,” said Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec.

“This is an important milestone for our growth in Romania. With multiple renewable projects now under construction, we are building scale in a market with strong fundamentals and significant potential,” said Alex Patrascu, Scatec’s Country Manager Romania.

The project adds wind power to Scatec’s existing Romanian solar portfolio, including the 190 MW Dobrun & Sadova projects currently under construction.
